Portrait of my father...through words! Happy Father's Day, Dad!
For a little girl, the only man who matters in the whole world is her father. With innocent eyes and trusting little hands she clings on to her dad for support and care throughout her life. For me, it was no different either. I’ve always been a daddy’s girl (Though I changed preferences when he was in a bad mood ;) )! My dad is one person whom I’ve always looked up to. He has been my mentor, my guide, my teacher, my inspiration, my source for worldly wisdom and my idol! Someone I would turn to when I was in a deep shit, someone whom I run to when I would be tormented by the monsters and demons in the middle of the night. With his gentle caring ways and eternal patience, I felt protected and sheltered. He is my idea of an ideal human being. And I dedicate this small poem especially for him -
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
All these qualities together, make my dad!
And, for all the innumerable things he did for us, I don’t remember ever saying even a simple ‘Thank you, Dad’! For all the sacrifices he made to provide us with a better life and an even better education. For always being there when we needed him. For all the small or big things we obstinately demanded and asked for, never refusing us even when it meant giving up on something he has been saving for since a long time. And for countless other things which we took for granted as kids. Today, I would like to take this opportunity and say “Thank you, Dad! For everything. I’m what I’m today because of you and I feel immensely proud and blessed being your daughter!”
And with father’s day around the corner, how can I not mention about the other father figure in my life… My dad-in-law! I’m fortunate and blessed to have a father-in-law who is equally a wonderful soul himself. Most certainly, my husband would reflect the same sentiments for him as I had about my dad above. Blessed are those who receive love and care from their dad but truly fortunate and lucky are those few who have both the father figures showering their love and care on them!
Happy Father’s Day to the most wonderful dads in the world!!” :)
