Corruption - Is there an end to it??
The most talked about topic these days here is Anna Hazare! Everywhere I see, newspaper, media, TV and even social networking sites, all I see is news and updates about him and his movement. It feels as if I’m in pre-independence era and witnessing a revolution in the making of attaining freedom! This is similar in a way as here we are fighting for freedom from corruption. Its kind of inspiring yet bewildering at the same time to see everyone giving this issue so much hype. Having said that, I’m not at all against his movement. I for one would love to envision a corruption free India like any other Indian would. But lets face it, with so much poverty, illiteracy and unemployment do we really think that a man single-handedly will be able to bring that revolution in about 100 crore people across the nation? I understand that we need to start from somewhere and someone has to take a bold step to initiate it and that someone is Anna Hazare here. I appreciate his efforts and initiative but keeping a fast to bring a revolution does not make sense to me. In a country, where thousands die of hunger everyday and we along with our government helplessly let it happen, do u think another man dying of hunger, willingly in this case, would make any difference to any of us or our lives? We have become so immune to seeing poverty, hunger, corruption around us that we don’t really care about it anymore as long as it doesn’t affect us. Knowingly or unknowingly, we are the ones who propagate corruption and don’t even realize that it has crept into our day to day lives and has become a part of our numerous errands and work be it getting a new license, getting hold of a new gas cylinder, breaking the traffic rules and getting away with it easily and many other countless things that we don’t even bother to acknowledge. I know many people will deny or contradict with my statement here but however unwilling we are to admit that, that is the fact unfortunately. So unless we don’t change ourselves and get affected by our surroundings I don’t foresee any change in this country, Lokpal bill or no Lokpal bill, however blunt or forthright it may seem!
(This post was already written before Anna Hazare broke his fast on Sunday after the PM agreed to discuss his demands. Even then I decided to go ahead and publish this post just to put forward my perception of the entire issue. This is just my view and not targeted to attract any controversial comments or arguments. Though healthy discussions and opinions are always welcome!)
