Happy Diwali!

And comes the most awaited time of the year… Diwali, the festival of lights!
My most favorite festival of all seasons. It brings along with it an effervescent atmosphere and everything around you lights up dazzlingly. It transports you in a different world where everywhere around you are filled with happiness, joy, togetherness, and love.

Such is the fervor that you start preparing for the festival a month ahead in time. Your house magically turns sparklingly clean just before the festival which is adorned with beautiful ‘diyas’ & vibrant ‘rangolis’ thereafter and your wardrobe hosts an entire new collection of traditional wear. I wonder if they somehow get a whiff of something big coming on its way that even they would like to look their best and leave an impression on their visitors! :P  Moreover, the kitchen lines up all the mouth-watering delicacies and sweets and ‘farsans’ days before Diwali which usually ends up in the ‘ravenous-bellies-waiting-since-a-year-to-gorge-on-all-the-Diwali-feasts’ even before the festival begins!

It brings back wonderful memories when I reminisce about the numerous Diwalis that I celebrated with my family, during my growing-up years. Those were the golden days in an era which now only exist in my memories. Though, I can still feel the excitement and brightness that Diwali used to spread around then. The lighting of diyas, making the rangoli, shopping for new clothes, variety of home-made sweets and snacks, performing Puja and other rituals, bursting fire-crackers(well, that’s one aspect of Diwali that I didn’t really like then and still don’t but yet its an integral part of the festival so can’t ignore it:)), meeting relatives and friends, greeting everyone on the new year…ahhhh…Nostalgic!

I know, many of you must be wondering as to why I’m getting all nostalgic about Diwali since it comes every year.. and what is so special about this Diwali.. Right? Well, yeah I agree, but for me Diwali this year has a special significance for couple of reasons. Firstly, I’ll be celebrating the festival after three long years in this country…Oh! I dearly missed it all these years…the fervor, the zest, the vibrancy, the illumination and all the little nuances of the festival. And secondly, it would be my first authentic Diwali with my husband and his family. And that’s precisely the reason why I’m all excited to celebrate this Diwali and eagerly waiting for the festival this year! Hoping to re-create and experience the same aura of Diwali …yet again!

HAPPY DIWALI AND A PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL!  HAVE A WONDERFUL FESTIVE SEASON…
