A world apart!
A world where we are connected with
practically everyone we know or don’t know through social media but
disconnected with the person sitting next to you who probably is a more significant
part of your life since that person is with you in essence.
A world where we
have hundreds of friends on a networking site but no real friends to hang out
with, go for a movie or just plain talking your heart out with.
A world where
we shout out loud our sentiments and thoughts to the world but the person you
care to share those feelings is oblivious to it.
A world where we get ourselves
‘clicked’ just to share with everyone our precious moments captured with our
loved ones on camera and then waiting for all the mushy comments but risk
losing that moment to cherish and enjoy with your loved ones and just be there
in the moment.
A world where a plethora of information across the globe is
accessible right at your fingertips but inspite of it all, it doesn’t help you
in ‘looking up’ who your next door neighbours are.
This, is our world. A world
you and me are a part of, knowingly or unknowingly, admittedly or unadmittedly,
acceptably or unacceptably.
In retrospection, those of us who have grown up in 80’s
& 90’s atleast know that there exists a world beyond the virtual world, a lost
world which sadly today’s generation might never know of.
A lost world of
playing outdoor games with your society friends instead of mobile games.
A lost
world where socializing actually meant going to a friends or relatives
place.
A lost world where you were
intensely involved in your children’s activities and academics instead of being
occupied with your cell phones.
A lost world where your neighbours enacted the
role of ‘google’ in your life aka an important source of information however
trivial and irrelevant it may be.
A lost world where friendship requests were
sent through flowers and letters.
A lost world where relationship statuses
didn’t change overnight.
A lost world
where we could ‘talk’ hours with our friends instead of texting or chatting.
A
lost world where Apple and Blackberry were just fruits.
How we wish for that plain yet pleasant era to come back and
simplify our lives again. However, I have realized that it’s almost impossible
to turn back the clock as we have transformed ourselves willingly to become the
slaves of internet and the virtual world. Agreed that internet has made life
much easier and does have a lot of benefits to its advantage. But it’s entirely
up to us how we turn it to our advantage and don’t let it become a disadvantage,
don’t let it rule our minds and turn us into total addicts. This world has
indeed become a web and it’s just so plain complicated to get out of that web
without getting webbed!
This post was inspired from this video here. It surely did
strike a chord within as I’m guilty as charged! I don’t know how much things
will change, if at all it does, but I sure am willing to make an effort and
strive to turn back the clock.. even if just a wee bit!
