Photo of the week # A Painter's delight..

Image
Amongst all the pics that I’ve had the opportunity to click, this has been one of my favorites. There is something about this pic that screams arty. Or maybe it’s just me who is delusional and biased. But whenever I see this pic it somehow gives me an impression of a beautiful painting which I wish I’d created. At least I had the privilege to capture it on my lens. Even though, as you would have guessed by now, it’s a photo of a reflection in water; it comes across as a creative art or vision through a painter’s eye. And with this the ‘photo of the week’ series comes to an end. Though it doesn’t stop here completely. Instead of the weekly photo we will have a ‘photo of the month’ series starting from next month. If you have any wonderful clicks that you would like to share please feel free to do so in the comments below or on my Facebook page. Till then happy clicking!

Photo of the week # "Twigs with a twist"

Image
We have all seen or heard about the beauty of autumn, when the leaves exhibit a myriad of colors before withering and shedding away. The vivid colors of fall are a photographer’s delight and everyone wants to capture the beauty on their camera. But, rarely would you notice the exquisiteness of the leafless tree which looks more like a skeleton without the flesh. Yet, for some strange reason I find that facet of nature beautiful and fascinating enough to capture it on my lenses. Whenever I see barren trees I feel drawn to it and get mesmerized by the aura it creates. For some it might be spooky or lifeless but for me it depicts life in perspective. A tree is at its pinnacle in terms of beauty when it is nearing its end. It demonstrates how outer beauty is just short lived while inner beauty is eternal. It also illustrates the intricacy and complexity within oneself which is comprehensible once the outer façade is perished. Be it trees or humans. Only difference being that the trees...

Photo of the week # 'Gateway to heaven'

Image
We have grown up watching movies where death is often interpreted with white light beckoning us to the doors of heaven. So I was pretty convinced that my end is near when I saw this white light beckoning me from the corridors of this magnificent building that I was visiting. This couldn’t be happening for real, I told myself. I started to convince God that he must have had me confused with someone else. A clear case of mistaken identity you see. He wouldn’t possibly want to take me away from my daughter who needs me more than anyone else does. Or would He? And I surely can’t leave my husband halfway in our eternal journey together. He would be devastated. Well, he better be if he doesn’t want to get spooked by my spirit later on. And my parents! They would be shattered beyond imagination. You can’t possibly do that to them, now can you God? A million such thoughts ran through my mind before my dear hubby jolted me back to the reality. I could clearly see his subtle amused expre...

Photo of the week # 'Spreading colors of hope'

Image
The first thing that catches your attention in this picture is its vivid colors and vibrancy it exudes. Everything from the colorful bangles to the traditional attire and antique jewellery comes alive in the photo and you can’t help but be contagious with liveliness from within. But as you delve deeper into her eyes, you realize that she may be exuberating liveliness and vibrancy around her though deep inside of her life is colorless.. All you can see in her eyes is worry and distress. Worrying about making ends meet. Worrying about what to feed her children tonight. Worrying if her family will have to sleep hungry again. Worrying if her husband will spend all the hard earned money on his vices yet again. Yet she doesn’t let this constant worrying defeat her hope and she continues to strive to fill her children’s life with all the colors possible.

Confessions of a blogAholic

Not many of you would know my love for photography. I had, a long time ago, written a post on the same which you can read here if you would like. Which also makes me realize what a long way I have come since I started this journey of writing and blogging. No doubt, it has been one joyful ride and it has strengthened my love for writing over all these years and has helped me evolved as a writer, even if I take the liberty to say so myself. Yet I feel there is something holding me back and am not able to write as much as I would like to. When I started off with this blog I whipped up so many posts in a month which is now reduced to just once a month or maybe less than that. So what’s impeding the post flow, you may ask? Well, to begin with I am most of the times stuck for topic ideas. Writer’s block as they say. The topics don’t flow out as often and effortlessly these days as it did when I started. Of course I do have my mommy tales which I share quite frequently on the blog but if you...

A mother's letter - III

Image
My dear daughter, Yes! It’s that time of the year again. Yet another year has gone by as you turn three today. A year of challenges, a year of plethora of emotions, a year of trial and tribulations, a year of exploration and discovery.   Being an Indian mother, my conscience doesn’t allow me to write about my failures or weak moments as a mother. We mothers are expected to be ‘super moms’ at all times and failure of doing so puts us at a risk of being called ‘poor moms’. I don’t really care about how and what the world thinks about me as a mother but it matters to me how you, who means the world to me, when you grow up will think about me. How would you react when you, who look up at your mom for every little thing now, know that your mom is not what you thought her to be. Yes, when you learn the truth that I’m not exactly a monster that you thought me to be all these years. I know it will be the moment of awakening for you and will shatter all your delusions about your mom(me...

Please don't judge her..

Image
The day I was born, my entire family rejoiced except my mom. But please don’t judge her since she was in pain, weak and fighting to survive just to bring me safely in to this world. When I cried in the middle of the night she woke up and spent endless nights with me, comforting me and rocking me back to sleep. But there were times when she didn’t. Please don’t judge her for that since she was tired and sleep deprived for making sure I slept peacefully. She left me in the hands of my grandmother/nanny when I turned three months, but please don’t judge her for that since she needed to get back to work and struggled to retain her identity at the same time fighting her inner conscience which was ridden with guilt for leaving me. It was harder for her than it was for me, trust me. When I was a toddler, my mom went for a holiday with my dad. Without me. But please don’t judge her for that as she needed to spend some time with him as well, alone. I indeed am the center of her existe...

Love actually!

Image
Come February and you are surrounded by the feeling of love. A month of love and romance. You can indeed feel love in the air, everywhere. For that one special day of celebrating love, famously known as Valentine’s day all over the world, you start preparing for it days oops weeks in advance. After all, out of the 365(Rest 364 days (oops 362 actually if you count birthdays and anniversaries), who cares?) days in a year we have got just one day to show our true love for the love of our lives. So we have got to create the right impression, right? And how. We have to go over the top to show the world how much we care for that special one in our life. I mean, what if we don’t do something special or noteworthy for each other and the world will know how much we love each other or rather don’t. OMG! Nop can’t take that risk now can I? I have to compete in the race of PDA or else I’m at the risk of being tagged as a loser in the game of love. Just imagine how everyone would feel if they foun...

The gift

Image
She scanned the living room frantically looking for him. He was nowhere to be seen. Where could he possibly have gone to at this time? The guests had just started to pour in. Soon everyone will be here. She had to find him fast. She scurried through the hallway to the stairs as fast as her feet could take her up the flight of stairs into their bedroom. She opened the door of their bedroom only to find no trace of him there.  She rushed to his office cum library room in case he had forgotten they had guests coming over tonight and decided to feed the bookworm in him. Well, he better not or he sure would have to bear the brunt of it.  The hint of the rising anger soon turned to concern as he was not be found there either. She searched each and every nook and corner of their two-storied villa which they had so lovingly and heartedly built together. They called it their dream house. And indeed it was. He had worked day and night to make this dream come true. And ...

A plea for help.. !

Dear You. Yes you who are reading this. Don't look so puzzled. I know you are wondering why am I addressing this letter to you of all people. Well, because I know that you will listen to what I have to say and help me. Or will at least give a thought about it. Who am I? And why do I need your help? Well, I am just one of you. Or you can say in everyone of you. It's how you perceive me. I am around since years but I die a premature death every year by each one of you to be born again next year. Every year you promise to take care of me, nurture me, hold on to me and pamper me. Instead, you end up neglecting me, avoiding me, make fun of me and eventually forgetting me and letting me slide beneath your fingers like dry sand. None of you have lived upto your promise till now and I'm utterly dissappointed in you after giving you so many chances to prove yourself. I understand I dont play an important role in your life as much as other factors but what bothers me is the fact t...
