A mother's diary!

Image
Okay, I know I broke my New year resolution and didn’t try to keep up with it even once! The cliché ‘Resolutions are meant to be broken’ probably might have saved the day for me, if only I didn’t feel so guilty about breaking it. It’s not that I didn’t want to write but the lack of time and energy prevented me from achieving my resolution. I could have managed the time factor if needed but the energy factor became a deterrent. After running behind my little terror, who is all of nine months now and is a powerhouse of energy, all day round consumes all my stored energy of the day not leaving much for the rest of things I would want or like to do. Like opening my laptop has also become a once-a-week affair. For those who don’t know me personally, let me enlighten you with this simple but significant detail which is extremely crucial to understand its gigantic role in my life, to comprehend that it is a big deal for someone like me who used to survive on it on a daily basis pre-pregn...

Ring in the new year, ring out the old!

Image
A new year. A new beginning. New hopes. New resolutions. New dreams. Yet another year gone by turning all the events of the past year into memories, some etched in our minds forever! The past year bestowed upon us hope & happiness proving it to be a landmark year for us and it also gave me the most coveted and valuable title of my life which every woman dreams of. Mother! The past year has been a joyride all the way. Life has never been so busy yet super fun, before I embarked on the journey of motherhood. The last seven months of the year whizzed by so swiftly that I just amazingly realized the fact that my little baby has completed a little more than first half of the year on this earth already! Whoa ! Where did the time fly I wonder? Looks like I’ve been so engrossed (and happily so) in changing diapers and cleaning baby bottles that I probably just lost track of all time! :P   Seriously, it just feels like yesterday when we came back to India struggling to settle...

English Vinglish..

Image
After five months I finally saw a movie in a theatre, which is a big deal for someone who is a movie buff and has to see the latest releases on a 70”mm screen. Even during my pregnancy I saw a lot many movies so it came as no surprise when I found my four month old watching tv with eyes wide open without batting an eyelid! Aahhh the damn genes venes I tell you! I always thought that I would be a strict parent and would never allow my children to watch tv till they start school. Well, it seems my thought bubble has already busted even before it was fully inflated. Sigh Vigh!  Oh well, coming back to the point, as you might have already guessed we saw this movie called ‘English Vinglish’. It is a beautiful movie with fabulous acting by its actors. Nahh, this post is not about the movie review if that is what you are speculating. What inspired me and thereby this post was the simplistic manner in which the movie conveys the reality of life. The era we live in, if you don’...

A mother's letter..

Image
My dear daughter, Ever since you came into my life, announcing your arrival with a loud cry followed by a declaration ‘It’s a girl!’, I knew my life was about to experience the most significant change ever. I don’t know if that change is for the good or bad. I am not sure if that change is temporary or permanent. I’m not even certain that change is essential or unessential. All I can be confident about is that this change will be embraced with open arms just as you. I know life won’t be the same as it was before, we will have to think a zillion times before your dad and I do anything like going out for dinner, enjoying a movie in the theatre, hanging out with friends, going for a vacation and many other similar stuff which we did for our enjoyment and fun . Even a simple task of sleeping all night long at a stretch seems farfetched as of now. But all of these things seem petty when I weigh it against the happiness and inner contentment that I attain when I see you or wh...

Hey baby!

Image
So after another long sabbatical (this time for a valid reason..I promise!), I’m back yet again. With a bang! Yes, that’s right… With a loud BANG I want to announce happily and proudly to the world that I’ve become a ‘Mommy’ to a beautiful little baby girl! We feel immensely blessed and eternally grateful to God for bestowing us with such a precious and priceless gift ever. It is the most wonderful feeling on this earth, to be a mother, as I’m sure all the beautiful moms would nod their heads in agreement. Earlier, even before I was married, whenever I pictured myself with my child somehow I always pictured a baby girl. So I guess my subconscious mind already knew that it would be a girl though everyone who saw me during my pregnancy betted their life on that I was going to have a baby boy! And boy! were they wrong (much to my relief!). Not that I don’t like baby boys, its just that I love baby girls much more. For multiple reasons; they are super cute and adorable, its so muc...

Jab we met..

Image
So today is our engagement anniversary. Yeah our relationship turned five years old today. My mind wandered back in time and I started reminiscing about how it all began five years ago… It is still fresh and vivid in my mind as if it all happened just yesterday! The excitement, the chaos, the apprehension is forever etched in my memory. I realized then that I was about to experience a life changing event and that it was a turning point in my life which will change the course of direction I was going till now, forever!  It all started with my dad telling me casually, while in the car, that we are going to see a ‘boy’ who is from US and is in India currently on a short visit and might be in a hurry to marry and go back to US. For me, who was already so averse to going to US, and added to that fact rushing into a marriage with a complete stranger, it did not fly too well with me. So I was like “ Dad, please turn back the car. I’m not going anywhere and I’m least intere...

Men are from mars and Women from Venus...

Image
'Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus’ goes a famous saying.  And I now realize the true meaning and importance of this well-known quote, which was just that -before I discovered the deeper significance behind these legendary words – a quote!   Ever wonder how, if men are from Mars and women from Venus, did they meet on Earth of all planets? Well, maybe in search of the ‘Forbidden Apple’, I suppose! Hmmm, that makes sense… doesn’t it? Or does it? Well, whatever… the fact is that they did meet on Earth, somehow, and we (some infinite amount of people on this Earth) are a living proof of that! Marriages are made in heaven but… lived on earth! I often speculate how God knew who is the right match for you and on what basis does He pre-decide on your partner even before you are conceived! And more often than not it turns out to be a ‘perfect mis -match made in heaven’… :P  and therein lies the secret behind the words of the famous saying above. I know, I kn...

A letter... which never made it to the red box!

Not so dear stray dogs of my society, I’m sure you must be in the pink of your health! How do I know? Oh well, who can know better! Isn’t it obvious from the way u bark your lungs out? It seems you get an unexplainable pleasure barking without any reason and distressing the poor residents of the society. And no, you never bark unaccompanied. You have to gather all your friends, who feel they are missing some rock show and come wagging their tails to join you, from the nearby communities and perform a chorus kinda thing, which is mind you, not very soothing for our ears even though if you feel you are as good as the Beatles or the likes! Moreover, you don’t need a time table for that, do you? You tend to do that any time of the day and even worse any time during night depending on your mood, every single day! What’s even more amazing is the fact that we, the residents of the society, cannot do anything about it (thanks to some animal lovers’ protest) and therefore you callous canines...

Only you...

Image
My first attempt at writing a poem for my husband on his birthday….   U came into my life like a knight in shining armor, And filled my life with happiness, laughter and a little grammar.. U r the man of my dreams and just like a flowing stream, U whisked me off my feet with a gentle scream.. U showed me the true meaning of love and unity, And made my dreams turn to reality.. With U every fight seemed sweet, Without U every night seemed so long.. U showered me with lovely gifts, And gave my heart a whooping lift.. Now its my turn to bestow U with a wonderful gift of love For U deserve the best and to U that much I owe.. I never fail to thank God for sending u in my life And giving me the honor of being your wife!

Moving on...

Phew ! At last found some time to return to the blog and revive it before it gets lost somewhere in the big bad world of web and before I forget that I do have a blog that needs to be updated periodically, at the least! That’s what blogs are there for in the first place. Oh well! Never mind the fact that no one really misses or cares about it except you. Just the satisfaction derived out of putting down your thoughts on paper ( rather venting out your emotions ) is an incentive enough to write the blog. And for once, I do have plenty to write about, lots of emotions sweeping inside me and lots to express but all my thoughts are so cluttered at the moment that I am at a loss of words. (Surprising, ain’t it?? :P) So much has happened in the past few months and for the first time in last few years I feel that life is finally moving ahead…in the right direction! Of course, there are times when I miss my life in the US .. the lifestyle, the comfort and convenience, the freedom, the fri...
